If it’s time to give your smile a makeover, read on to find out how dental veneers can help.

Are you doing a little research to figure out which cosmetic dental treatment would best suit your needs and give you the smile you’ve dental-veneersalways wanted? Well, you're in luck—our Salem, OR, cosmetic dentist, Dr. Igor Sitnik, has helped countless patients find renewed confidence in their appearance with the help of dental veneers! Here’s what you should know about this wonderful treatment.

What exactly are veneers?

Veneers are very thin, stain-resistant porcelain shells that are made to look like a tooth; however, unlike a crown, which completely covers a tooth, veneers are bonded to only the front surface of your teeth. By covering the front of your teeth with veneers, our Salem, OR, dentist can enhance your smile and:

  • Hide dark internal stains that won’t respond to professional whitening
  • Fix cracked or chipped teeth
  • Strengthen teeth that have been worn down due to grinding and clenching
  • Reshape a tooth that is malformed or disfigured
  • Close gaps between teeth to give you a straighter smile

Are veneers permanent?

While veneers are made from porcelain, which is an extremely durable material, even these restorations will need to be replaced at some point. With proper care, veneers can last anywhere from seven to twenty years. Of course, it’s important to know that before receiving veneers, our dentist will need to remove a very small amount of enamel from the front surface of your teeth. Since enamel cannot grow back, this process cannot be reversed.

How are veneers placed?

Most patients can get dental veneers in just two visits. After your consultation, in which we will determine whether you are right for veneers or not, we will prep the teeth by painless removing a layer of enamel. Next, impressions are taken of your teeth and sent to a dental lab.

It can take a dental lab anywhere from 2-4 weeks to create your veneers, after which, you will come back into our office to have them fitted. Once we check the fit and know that you are satisfied with the results, we will apply dental bonding between the tooth and your veneers before hardening it into place with a special light.
